Mark Zanowski is an artist based in Milwaukee, WI
In 2007 I began having fun with the plethora of leftover rusty cans of latex house paint sitting dormant in our basement by painting murals in our children's rooms. I then completed three landscape paintings for my wife's office.
In 2012, despite having no formal training, fueled by a profound passion, I embarked on a series of black and white acrylic paintings centered around Christ, culminating in a collection known as The Jesus Collection. The positive reception of this collection encouraged me to hone my artistic skills further. In 2018, I explored the influence of Vincent Van Gogh in my work, merging some of the artist's most iconic pieces with the adventures of my muse, our German Shepherd, Maisy. This innovative approach resulted in the whimsical and often humorous series titled Maisy Meets Van Gogh, which was showcased throughout the 2023 festival season.
In 2024, I introduced another series, Maisy Out on the Range, which drew inspiration from the minimalist style of painter René Magritte, as well as the distinctive visual storytelling of filmmaker Wes Anderson. This collection conveyed the essence of a self-contained world, marked by thoughtful simplicity. My artistic pursuits continued in 2025/2026 with the launch of The Flowered Collection, featuring our second German Shepherd, Manchego. This series further emphasized Wes Anderson’s visual style, reinforcing my signature blend of narrative and aesthetic.
Over the past few years, I’ve gained recognition through participation in various shows across the Midwest, including venues in Milwaukee, Chicago, Indianapolis, Kalamazoo, Louisville, Columbus, and Marquette (Best in Show – Painting). In 2026 my list of scheduled shows includes events in Naples, Bonita Springs, Sarasota, and Knoxville. Through my diverse body of work, I aspire to evoke joy, humor, and contemplation among viewers.
When not painting in my studio or traveling for shows, I enjoy sharing great meals with my wife, Stephanie, and spending time with our German Shepherds.
